About the event

Welcome to the National Festival of Design 2024, hosted in Hobart, Tasmania. Under the inspiring theme "The Home of Design," we invite designers, energy assessors, architects, and specifiers from around the world to join us from November 7th to November 10th for a celebration of innovation and creativity in design.

Our Trade Night is designed as a precursor to the Festival mixing National and local exhibitors and visitors, offering a vibrant showcase of the latest in design solutions.
Our ‘Ask Me Anything’ panel – T Wilkin and M Dewsbury will offer specific solutions to your questions in the areas of Thermal Assessing and Condensation.
You can gain at least 2 formal CPD points at our pop-up CPD station.
Support local charity Hobart Women’s Shelter and WIN lots of prizes!

Two-Day Conference

Friday & Saturday 8-9 November from 8am

Design is the core element of all our presenters this year whether it is colour; lighting; accessibility; structure; strategy; safety or mindset, our speakers all bring the design perspective into their presentations. Simon Banks is our Keynote on Friday he describes himself as a recovering professional artist who has become a podcaster on creativity, innovation and design; an author and a proven and acclaimed presenter who’s helped people shift their thinking and develop great ideas in industry-leading companies around the globe. Saturday’s Keynote is Andy Hoyne the Founding Principal of Hoyne. He has been working in and around the property sector for the past 32 years, helping major Australian and international developers and Councils create recognizable landmarks across Australia.

CPD Stations

Throughout the National Festival of Design you have the opportunity to gain both formal and informal CPD - Continuing Professional Development – points.

Exclusive to our Trade Night event, we will have six pop-up CPD stations in the Wellington Room, each hosted by a different supplier throughout the evening. Registration is on arrival at the Trade Night. During the 2-day conference there will be more CPD point opportunities to look out for!

Design Awards Gala Dinner

Saturday 9 Nov 6.30pm - Midnight
Crowne Plaza, Centurian Room

Celebrate excellence in design at our gala dinner. Starting at 6.30pm with pre-dinner drinks in the level 4 Courtyard with views overlooking the city and the harbour. Enjoy a 3-course meal with BDAA members, Industry partners and guests. Support chosen charities Dress for Success and Groomed to Go before dancing til midnight.

Tour of MONA – Museum of Old and New Art

Sunday 10 Nov 10am – lunch

Concluding your festival experience with a tour of MONA via ferry departing from Brooke Street Pier at 10.15am. David Walsh designed MONA to be approached from the water and you can see why!
Once you arrive onsite, connect to the Wifi network called “Mona Free Wifi.”
Use “The O” to be informed about the art, nearby artworks throughout your journey and hit save when you’re in the Museum to access everything you’ve looked at from home.
You are not alone inside the depths of Mona with “The O” – there will be staff members along the way to provide help and answer any questions you may have.
Please create your own journey as Mona is about self exploration – Get lost, be entertained, be shocked and have fun!
